Slave Machine are a french metal industrial band who got in touch with me around april this year. I remember being on the train coming back to Edinburgh from Liverpool and checking my emails and received a long message explaining the concept and ideas they had in mind for the artwork and their wish to work with DOSEprod. They had attached a few demo MP3s which I listened to and immediately liked (being a fan of industrial metal a la Fear Factory, Godflesh & Ministry did help a bit). Check out the artwork.
Their debut album “DISCONNECTED” is out today (1st october 20130) on DOOWEET Records for only 7 Euros ! ORDER HERE >> CLICK
The packaging : 4 panel Digipak with a 8 page booklet included. Photos coming soon !
Zoltar Speaks ‘Save As I Save’ Album packaging will be a beautiful 6 panel digipak with a 8 page booklet. Emerging from the rural plains of Somerset, Zoltar Speaks hurl out fiery jack hammer riffs boned with enticing refrains. Drawing from the thrashcore belligerence of Pantera meshed with the attitude of Skunk Anansie, and laden with the technical innovative zest of Coheed and Cambria. Zoltar Speaks have twisted a style uniquely their own and unleash it to devastating effect. They got in touch with DOSEprod earlier this year asking for the album artwork and t-shirt designs. The album cover has been revealed a few days ago and ‘Save As I Save’ is out Nov 11th 2013. Join their Facebook page here >> CLICK
I’ve always wanted to design a book cover ! I do many CDs, DVDs and artwork for digital releases but I never got asked to do a book cover…. till AT LAST ! the time has come. My first book cover design is for a Sci-fi story called ‘The Golden Circuit‘ by John Irvine who is a writer and musician living in Edinburgh (Scotland). He studied various things at Dartington College of Arts (Totnes) the RSAMD (Glasgow) and The University of Edinburgh. The Sci-Fi novel, ‘The Golden Circuit’, will be published in August 2013. Earlier this year I was contacted by renowned tattoo artist Paul Slifer to help him out on the layout of his new book project ‘A is for Anchor’ which is a delightful illustrated alphabet inspired by classic images from traditional tattoo designs. The book combines his love for classic tattoo art with his interest in children’s books since becoming a father to two girls. Painted in the traditional ‘flash’ style of tattoo design making, A is for Anchor, was made to appeal to parents looking for a unique alphabet book for their children as well as fans of tattoo art and illustrated books. With its retro, folk art charm and engaging verse, A is for Anchor is a playful book which celebrates an antiquated artistic heritage in a new and innovative way.
Paul Slifer owns RED HOT AND BLUE which is one of the best tattoo studios in Edinburgh and I am happy to announce that I will be working on their new website in the next few months ! Watch this space for updates.
I am happy to start the year with this post about the latest music video I have directed which kept me very busy during december. I was working many nights till early morning on editing and on the post-production to get the video finished before my XMAS holidays.
I started working with PLASTIC NOOSE (electro-Metal-Industrial band from Edinburgh) last year designing the logo, digipak and website so a video was a great addition to the project. I am very happy with the final result and it was really a great collaboration. I would like to thank Alan Emslie (Plastic Noose) and all the people involved in helping making this video possible: Laura Consuela Smith, Erik Tricity, Rory Alsop and Nicolas Dorian Bateman. (YOU ALL ROCK!)
I hope you enjoy the video which you can watch in HD on Youtube here :>>>>>: CLICK

It’s been exactly 2 years today I arrived to live and setup my DOSEprod studio in Edinburgh. It was a big move for me and my family to decide to come over to Scotland (more than 1000 miles from our previous home in south of France) but we don’t regret our decision for one second as we have had two great years so far full of great times. We all love living in this beautiful city and really enjoy discovering and exploring Scotland. I have also met some lovely people and made some great new friends and I have got to work on many artwork projects with talented bands from the local music scene. Edinburgh is a really great place to work and live and if you don’t mind I think I’ll stick around here for many more years to come. Cheers!
This is the latest artwork I did for SLOW MOTION REPLAY. This Sunday 20th November at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh, will be their last gig. I have finished the website of Le Hat Noir, the brainchild of Melanie Grieve who is a Edinburgh based hat designer. All hats and fascinators are constructed by hand using traditional methods such as Buckram and wire or more modern materials, such as sinamay. Lehatnoir is strongly influenced by her love of Theatrical fashion and she is happy to take on any commission from Ziegfeld Follies style headdresses to ice-cream cone hats! She loves to work in sumptuous silks and velvets and is addicted to beautiful lace trims. Go and check out the website and her amazing beautiful hats ! >> CLICK

Slow Motion Replay are an Alternative Rock band from Edinburgh. I was happy to be involved with these guys who hired me to design the artwork for their first single which is out on June 24th 2011. Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting film is 15 years old. What a great film !! I remember coming to Edinburgh the first time in 2002 and having that film in my mind. I also remember the first time I saw the film poster campaign because it really had a great visual communication campaign which just hit you in the face. I saw it at the Waterloo station in London in early 1996 – huge posters everywhere announcing this new film expected to arrive … 23:02:96. The poster campaign was created by the design company Stylorouge (based in London) who got inspiration from the individual character poster for the film Reservoir Dogs (they presented each character.. Mr Orange, Mr Brown etc…). Then they used the idea of train station board with numbering each character. Then they used the colour orange mixed with black & white photography and to complete they chose to use the most famous font of the century : HELVETICA. It’s such a strong design identity for a film ! it just works great and still works great today.. 15 years after. CHOOSE LIFE !

On the 6th of january I went to see A Ritual Spirit playing their first gig at Bannerman’s, Edinburgh’s well-knwown live music venue. I’ve been following this band since they split up with Serpico and they asked me to design their logo and EP. It was a great set (a little short but hey! it’s a first gig) and definitely a band I’ll recommend to check out this coming year. Good times and a great night out. I’ll be checking them out again live at The Cabaret Voltaire Venue – Edinburgh on the 4th of february 2011. Oh and I quickly edited up a little live video which you can see here >> CLICK
I hope you had a fantastic Xmas break. I’ve been celebrating a lot with my family and I had a good boxing day/night out with some friends. I am slowly getting back to work on some projects before another few days break for NYE. The snow has now all gone in Edinburgh and here are some photos of yesterday afternoon which show the area I live in the south town next to Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat. Anyone seen the film THE MIST directed by Frank Darabont? More news coming very soon ! See you on the other side …
Back in late 2008 I was contacted by a band from Edinburgh called Serpico – I designed the artwork for their 1st album called “Neon Wasteland’ (Click here to see). When I moved to Edinburgh a year ago, I got to meet up with them and they showed me a few good places to go out in the evening to see gigs and we had some great times. In early 2010 the band split up but still did a last gig opening for Skindred on 16th march 2010 at Studio 24. Mikey (singer) and Jonny (drummer) then moved down to London with Serpico and recruited new musicians. In the meantime the 3 ex-serpico members Oli (vocals/guitars), Ian (Bass) and Steve (guitars) had new plans and started a new band called A Ritual Spirit. They then found a talented drummer from Edinburgh called Dave to join them in their new musical adventures. Then was months and months of rehearsing in a dark room above an old Pub in south Edinburgh – I was asked to design their new logo and do a photo-shoot for a first auto-produced 4-track demo CD they were working on which was then released in September 2010. Now it’s time for them to get the show on the road and a first gig has been finally announced ! A RITUAL SPIRIT – Live – 6th January 2011 – Bannermans/Cowgate – Edinburgh – Doors 8pm -£4 – I’ll be there to check them out!
Here is the logo - A Ritual Spirit :

1st december 2009 ! One year ago we left France where we had been living for the last past 10 years and we moved to Edinburgh – Scotland into our new home with my family where I set up my new small DOSEprod Studio. What a great fantastic year it has been! This is such an inspiring and lovely city to live in. Owing to its spectacular, rugged setting and vast collection of Medieval and Georgian architecture, including numerous stone tenements, it is often considered one of the most picturesque cities in Europe and was voted the “most desirable city in which to live in the UK”. I love visiting old monuments, discovering historic places and of courses castles and I have started exploring Scotland and visited so many lovely places and towns. The highlands, Loch Ness, Isle of Skye, Loch Lomond, Oban, Angus to name a few .. and in a year I have visited a dozen of castles which are all totally stunning and incredible. I was thinking that if I had stayed living in France I would have missed all these great bands which I got to saw live since I moved here : Karma To Burn, Skindred, Soulfly, Pitchshifter, earthtone9, GodFlesh, Killing Joke, The Dillinger Escape Plan, October File .. and also saw Henry Rollins at the Edinburgh Fringe festival. My family loves it here and my boys have settled well in local schools and have made some new friends and are learning to speak english very fast – they love the city and enjoy it all so much and we live so close to the Meadows park and Holyrood park which is great for nice peaceful walks. We have met some really nice people and made some new friends and I was happy to discover a great local pub (The Auld Hoose) with great music, beers and whisky at 5mns walk from my home. It was also really nice to have many visits from friends and family coming over to see us – had such great times. Life is great and we really love living in Scotland and we will be staying here for many years to come! Bring on more lovely times and we have still so many places and castles to explore … We are totally ready !! YAY!

I have always loved stickers since I was a kid and have I always loved Sticker art (or sticker bombing) which is a form of street art in which an image or message is publicly displayed. When I was living in Marseille in the early nineties I remember doing many DIY anti-nazi and anti-Lepen (french National Front leader back in those days) stickers and putting them everywhere in the streets. Since I have done several ones over the years for DOSEprod and used them a lot in Bristol and Edinburgh and often do some sticker bombing all over places I visit and go to. If you have some cool stickers and would like to exchange some with mine ! let’s trade !! email me and I’ll send 5 over to you and in return you can send me 5 of yours. Great fun huh ??
Check this website called Street Art Stickers which shows great sticker art (updated almost daily) >> Click here
Also PEEL Magazine which is about documenting street art with a focus on stickers >> Click here
Last saturday night I went to see a MetalTech gig for the second time in a pub in Edinburgh called The Banshee Labyrinth. I had bought their ALKOMATIC EP a few months ago and got into listening to their mix of electronic beats blended with distorted guitars and a voice which sometimes reminded me of Rob Zombie. They are Erik Tricity on Vox, Guitars, Programming, Synths, Drugs, Beer / The Insidious Doktor Mayhem on Guitars, Red Bull, Petrol / Lord Thrapston Flagellator on Bass and Beer and Beer and Beer and Beer!! They are a lot of fun to go and see and listen to with songs which all stick into your brain with lyrics like “Let’s burn the world … let’s burn this fuckin planet….” on Burn Your Fucking Planet or “do you want to get wasted …we are going to drink to the mornin’ light’ on Wasted. Make-up, confetti, sex dolls and blacklight! Guaranteed to make you dance, drink and chant along to the choruses! … and to want to destroy this planet ! Think Orange ! Think MetalTech ! Check them out LIVE and for more info, photos, videos and where to buy the latest EP click on links below !!!!
