This is project number 8 and the second design of the third trilogy of artworks I am creating for the Music Publishing and Sync Licensing company Twisted Jukebox. Here is the artwork I created for ‘Twisted Beds & Drones’ which takes inspiration from dark, Sci-fi, and thriller movies. I really enjoy creating these cinematic, movie-inspired images. Here is the new logo I have designed for music composer Chris Haigh. I also designed some artwork for him which he has used as a background image on his new website. He wanted me to design a very cinematic and epic image which could look like a poster for a upcoming SciFi action film. I must say I had a lot of fun designing this image.
Over the last year Chris has primarily moved from composing Independant film scores to mainly working on music for Motion Picture, T.V and Games Advertising companies such as GOTHIC STORM, PSI RECORDS, SONIC SYMPHONY, BOOSEY AND HAWKES, IMMEDIATE MUSIC… Chris has also had his music featured extensively on BBC Radio 1, featured in the International Trailer campaign for M.Night Shyamalans DEVIL and Liam Neesons Thriller UNKNOWN. Last year, we took my metal-indus project Toxikhate for a ride into in-explored territory. We got involved in a project which was to work on 12 tracks based on songs by music composers – Dan Graham, Chris Haigh, Kyle Robertson, Tom Player, Leon Butler – and to give them a Toxikhate metal treatment. The aim of the project was to create an album called “Death Metal Trailers” made to be used for action-epic trailers, videos games, films, adverts etc… We had some great time on experimenting and creating a hybrid mix of metal-indus-hardcore and orchestral/choirs/strings/percussion tracks. My guitarist friend Daniel got into creating all these metal riffs and bass lines and I was in charge of editing up, drum programming, mixing, samples etc.. This was produced by Gothic Storm and the album has just been released by Imagem Production Music. You can listen to the 12 tracks on their website here >> CLICK

Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting film is 15 years old. What a great film !! I remember coming to Edinburgh the first time in 2002 and having that film in my mind. I also remember the first time I saw the film poster campaign because it really had a great visual communication campaign which just hit you in the face. I saw it at the Waterloo station in London in early 1996 – huge posters everywhere announcing this new film expected to arrive … 23:02:96. The poster campaign was created by the design company Stylorouge (based in London) who got inspiration from the individual character poster for the film Reservoir Dogs (they presented each character.. Mr Orange, Mr Brown etc…). Then they used the idea of train station board with numbering each character. Then they used the colour orange mixed with black & white photography and to complete they chose to use the most famous font of the century : HELVETICA. It’s such a strong design identity for a film ! it just works great and still works great today.. 15 years after. CHOOSE LIFE !
More STAR WARS stuff got into my house over XMAS… My son got a AT-AT model to build and I got this amazing book called The Making of the “Empire Strikes Back”: The Definitive Story Behind the Film. I’ve just read that all STAR WARS films are being released on Blu-Ray in September 2011 (strange that my birthday is in september huh?).
I am a huge fan of Darren Aronofsky. When I discovered his first film Pi – I just watched it over and over again. Then came the shocker Requiem for a dream – which lived (and still does) in my mind for months.. and I could not get that theme tune out of my head! Then The Fountain and The Wrestler – which I also really like. His next film is called Black Swan with Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder. The trailer is awesome and I can’t wait to see his 5th film which will no doubt be different from his other films, but surely intense and unique and it will surely be another piece of great film-making and actor directing.
